The lip around the edge of the pad (where the foam is pressed/cut) is quite hard. I ended up cutting it off with scissors: problem solved. If they come the way I made them after cutting I'd give them 4 stars.

(More customer reviews)Drive a classic 76 Trans Am - and get lots of scratches and chips on the bumpers from street parking. Wanted a decent polisher for removing occasional scratches and periodic repainting of bumpers. Was very impressed with this product. Seems nice and solid, 11 amp motor has lots of power. Very basic in terms of what comes with it - but for about $60.00 you don't expect a lot of extras. (Besides, extra pads and such are readily available at your local auto store for a few dollar.) Not unusual of polishers of this quality to be $150.00 to $250.00 or more. Slow start is a great feature. A bit on the heavy side - but I consider that a plus as it means less plastic. Comfortable to work with and speed seemed smooth. Tried it on a few scratches on my rear panel and it took them out with a bit of rubbing compound with almost no effort. If you want a quality product for home use and don't want to spend a fortune, then I would definitely recommend this polisher. Not much in the way of instructions, but not much assembly required and it was pretty easy to figure everything out. Since this is the first polisher I've used, I really have little to compare it to, but I am very happy with it and expect that you will be as well. Can't wait for my next full day off so I can grab this tool and give my car a great all-over detailing.

(More customer reviews)I've used this stuff for years, and it's a great product for cleaning over natural wax. It won't replace a car wash and wax, but if your car is lightly soiled with dust or rain spots, a once-over with a California Duster and then a mist and wipe with this will do a lot in 10 to 15 minutes.
If you don't want to leave swirl marks in your clear coat, for gawd's sake, don't use a paper towel or any regular towel for that matter. Use microfiber only. They're pretty cheap anymore. This is especially important on darker colored paint.

Klasse All In One 10 oz. Review

(More customer reviews)I first discovered Klasse All-in-One in 1977 through a mailorder company (it was from Germany and not widely available in the USA at that time) and used it to restore badly oxidized paint on an old sports car. Not only did it make the paint shine like new again, it took much less effort to apply than other brands. You can apply Klasse to the entire car before wiping the excess off (as opposed to doing only one section at a time like some products), and it's easy to buff out. It's also a polish and removes road tar, etc. Although the purchase price may seem steep, the time savings more than compensates.
Klasse is equally valuable for new cars, protecting the paint from the sun and harsh weather. One coat really does last 4 or more months as advertised. It's sold at high-end car dealerships like Porsche, BMW, etc. There are other excellent products in the Klasse line.

You HAVE to get your car washed first though (or wash it yourself during the warm months). If your car is filthy, this won't work very well (plus, you'll have to use so much of it, you'll be wasting your money). You have to at least spray the majority of the dirt off first.
This spray is more of a touch up spray. It leaves a nice, shiny coat on the car that repels water and makes for easier cleaning next time.

This article covers the following Porter-Cable tools:
The 7335 5" & 7336 6" Random Orbit Sanders (along with the sander kits we sell, 97355 & 97366 respectively), and the 7424 Car Polisher.
The counterweight is a half-moon shaped piece of metal attached to the rotating shaft of the tool. This smooths out the random orbit action by providing a counter balance to the elliptical orbit of the rotating backing pad. If you change the pad size you must also change the counterweight or suffer unnecessary vibration and possible damage to the tool.
There are two different counter-weights which are clearly marked to indicate use with either the 5" or 6" backing pad. Therefore if you decide to outfit the 7335 5" Sander with a 6" backing pad for sanding or polishing you must switch to the counterweight used with 6" backing pads. The same goes for the 7336 6" Sander. If you decide to outfit it for 5" sanding or polishing you must switch to the counterweight used with 5" backing pads.
The only exception is when using the 54745 6" Foam Polishing Pad. Due to its light weight and the small-diameter backing pad used (included with pad), it can be used with the 5" or 6" pad counterweight. Porter-Cable outfits the 7424 Car Polisher with the 5" pad counterweight.

The Porter Cable 7424 Dual Action Polisher is designed to move both in an orbital motion and a jiggling motion. With all that movement, the polisher may become unbalanced and the user has to compensate for the added wobbling. This problem is easily corrected with a counterweight. **SUPER VALUE** Pinnacle Souveran Paste Wax Review

(More customer reviews)When is a wax product worth this much money? Worth is subjective of course and all depends on one's budget along with how concerned their vehicles appearance is to them.
After trying NXT 2.0, N21S, Natty's, and other items, the Pinnacle Sourveran is by far my favorite for dark colored vehicles. Now, before you get all excited, know this. This wax is for dark color paints such as black, red, blue,etc. Not for light cars such as white, silver, etc.
APPLYING
The wax comes in a elegant box with a gold tie bag along with a microfiber towel and applicator. As I already have microfiber towels I left this one in it's wrapper as it looked too good to remove it and get it dirty.
Application is simple, just lightly brush the pad on the wax and apply to your paint-a little bit goes a long way. There is no need to wait, no drying time, etc. Once you apply it, just wipe it with the microfiber and buff it out. I can do my entire car in less than 30 minutes, it is that quick and painless.
DURABILITY
Last about 7 weeks on average which is about the same as a few of my other waxes. Of course weather, washes, and environment all play into the durability of the wax.
Hint: I actually apply NXT 2.0 first and then followed up with 2 coats of Souveran with a 12 hour wait time in between for best results. I find the luster is improved and still retains the deep 3D gloss the Souveran is known for.
Expect one container to last around 25 complete wax jobs. So a couple of years easy if your only waxing once a month. Oh, and did I mention this stuff smells great? Not on the car, but applying it is a joy.
Again, $100 is a lot for a wax, but if you are looking for an easy to apply/remove, incredible gloss with a deep shine to it, you will never go to an auto parts store again to buy wax. Available only via the internet.

Mothers 05750 California Gold Pure Carnauba Wax Liquid - 16 oz Review

(More customer reviews)I used many other brands from Meguiar's NXT, GoldGlass to Eagle1 Nanowax and none of those product comes close to Mothers Pure Carnuba Wax when it comes to deep, reflective shine and ease of use. Period.
I started using this product and noticed the difference right away. Seriously, this is the most underrated wax on the market. Anyone with a black car should give this wax a shot and I will make a bet that you too will see the difference. Even my coworkers saw the difference right away. Just by switching to this wax. They commented that it was "brighter and really glossy".
This wax does provide a very nice, reflective shine. Very easy to apply and wipe off. You won't be disappointed with this wax. Other waxes (especially those synthetic polymers wax) require that you wait 20+ minutes for the wax to dry before you buff it out. Even then, they show signs of "smears or streaks" on dark color cars. This carnuba wax dries in no time. By the time you apply the last coat, you can star buffing out the first panel you apply the wax on.
This is one of the most underrated waxes out there. Do yourself and your car a favor and get this wax.

A friend mentioned Vinyl Magic and I bought it from the website ([...]). The polish makes my jeep look brand new and also last for about 2 months at a time (some of the similar products seemed to fade within a couple weeks).
My only complaint is it is kind of tough to find in the auto stores. I had to buy it online through the company. Hopefully, they'll start selling it in the major auto supplies stores soon.

Hitachi SP18VA 7-Inch Sander/Polisher Review

(More customer reviews)I bought the Hitachi polisher because I wanted a machine that was lighter weight than the DeWalt DW849 I typically use. I also have a Porter Cable 7428 and have used the Makita 9227C. Normally the DeWalt is my "go to" polisher.
The Hitachi has the great feel and performance of the heavy duty DeWalt and adds the convenience of a bailing handle from the Porter Cable and the Makita 9227C. The light weight of the Hitachi makes life easier when polishing for hours at a time. The motor has a soft-start feature to minimize polish slinging but gets to its set speed quickly. The SP18VA works like the DeWalt in that it has a variable torque control ability which helps eliminate buffer "hop". A spindle lock, trigger lock and an 8 foot power cord round out the main features.
The closest machine on the market to the Hitachi is the Makita 9227C. Both look and feel alike with the Makita getting the nod for its smoother, more linear operation. By comparison the DeWalt works and feels like a tank and the Porter Cable is outclassed.
The only reservation I have with the Hitachi is its durability, which cost it one star with me. The DeWalt DW849 is legendary for its toughness and longevity and the Makita for its refined operation. Only time will tell if the Hitachi is comparable but as the new kid on the (detailing) block, it looks like a winner.

The only problem I had was that I tend to apply it more heavily than I should which leaves a little bit of a streaky look (which doesn't show much on a white car). This stuff is great, though. It is so slick that it seems to keep the car cleaner longer and, even now, the snow comes off really easily. I recommended it to my sister for her new Volvo.
