Wanted a decent polisher for removing occasional scratches and periodic repainting of bumpers. Was very impressed with this product. Seems nice and solid, 11 amp motor has lots of power. Very basic in terms of what comes with it - but for about $60.00 you don't expect a lot of extras. (Besides, extra pads and such are readily available at your local auto store for a few dollar.) Not unusual of polishers of this quality to be $150.00 to $250.00 or more. Slow start is a great feature. A bit on the heavy side - but I consider that a plus as it means less plastic. Comfortable to work with and speed seemed smooth. Tried it on a few scratches on my rear panel and it took them out with a bit of rubbing compound with almost no effort. If you want a quality product for home use and don't want to spend a fortune, then I would definitely recommend this polisher. Not much in the way of instructions, but not much assembly required and it was pretty easy to figure everything out. Since this is the first polisher I've used, I really have little to compare it to, but I am very happy with it and expect that you will be as well. Can't wait for my next full day off so I can grab this tool and give my car a great all-over detailing.

(More customer reviews)I bought this to restore the paint on a red Toyota that had turned completely pink over 14 years of use.
The car looked new when I was done. Now, much of the credit goes to the products I used, but the buffer performed well and did exactly the job I would expect.
When done, the car was a beautiful shade of red and this machine had performed beautifully.
Now a couple of warnings. One is it comes with only one synthetic wool pad. That was fine to do one car, and probably had enough life to do another. So, if you are doing only one car, purchasing just this unit is enough.
If, however, you need more, make sure you purchase products that will fit. Amazon sells a number of products that require a special mounting plate, and they do not tell you it is required to make the products useful.
That was not the machine's fault though, so it gets 5 stars, and Amazon gets about 2 for not providing clearer instructions on how to choose compatible buffing pads.

(More customer reviews)I'm so weird, but I begged my husband to get this for me. I'm in love with it too. It's really easy to use. The only issue I've had from it is that the on off switch is really easy to hit when you don't mean to. It was kind of annoying to turn it off when I didn't want to or to turn it on when I didn't want to (I managed to turn it on while I was adding wax to it...and I flung it all over myself. What an idiot!) But, overall, I think this product is awesome. It seriously cut down on the amount of time I'm waxing/buffing my car. I bought more bonnets for it, but I haven't used it again. I'm waiting for cooler weather to wax my husbands and friend's cars. Can't wait!!
When I start my husbands car, I'll get a video of it and post it. Would buy this again, or for someone else, in a heartbeat. I rave about it.

Hitachi SP18VA 7-Inch Sander/Polisher Review

(More customer reviews)I bought the Hitachi polisher because I wanted a machine that was lighter weight than the DeWalt DW849 I typically use. I also have a Porter Cable 7428 and have used the Makita 9227C. Normally the DeWalt is my "go to" polisher.
The Hitachi has the great feel and performance of the heavy duty DeWalt and adds the convenience of a bailing handle from the Porter Cable and the Makita 9227C. The light weight of the Hitachi makes life easier when polishing for hours at a time. The motor has a soft-start feature to minimize polish slinging but gets to its set speed quickly. The SP18VA works like the DeWalt in that it has a variable torque control ability which helps eliminate buffer "hop". A spindle lock, trigger lock and an 8 foot power cord round out the main features.
The closest machine on the market to the Hitachi is the Makita 9227C. Both look and feel alike with the Makita getting the nod for its smoother, more linear operation. By comparison the DeWalt works and feels like a tank and the Porter Cable is outclassed.
The only reservation I have with the Hitachi is its durability, which cost it one star with me. The DeWalt DW849 is legendary for its toughness and longevity and the Makita for its refined operation. Only time will tell if the Hitachi is comparable but as the new kid on the (detailing) block, it looks like a winner.

Carrand 40409 Foam 5-6" Polishing Bonnet Review

(More customer reviews)I agree with everything Larry said. You do have to be careful putting this on as they do rip easily. However, you don't need to take them off all the time. I've used them about 5-6 times already, and they do retain a good amount of wax. It does a great job waxing the car though. I would recommend this, and do intend on buying some more. :)

(More customer reviews)I have been looking for this model for a long time. I had a similar one before. It does everything it is suppose too. Lots of power with the variable speed. Just the right size to do any job. I use it to get the oxidation off my Ranger bass boat which has gel coat. This is the only one I have found with the power and speed to do it. I have 2 other polishers but neither have the power to cut through the oxidation.
The only problem is the bonnet will not stay on the head. The previous one I owned had a bonnet which tied on with a string going through the bonnet. There is also only 1 pad which is to be used for all applications. It really doesn't work for all or you need many pads to do all of your applications. I wish it had a pad to put on to polish, one to take it off and one for buffing.
The unit is also very heavy. It will do the job very well but after a while your arms are getting tired.
