I have not used the Meguiars Ultimate Liquid Wax on its own, so this review previews how I used this wax. First, I applied Meguiars Ultimate Polish to reduce fine swirl marks, and I used a Porter Cable 7424XP with a finishing pad to apply the wax. After the polish, the paint looked layered, deep and reflective. I was hesitant to apply a wax or sealant because of the paint's sparkle just with this polish. But I did add the Meguiars Ultimate Liquid Wax. The short review: all the swirl marks are gone, and the paint offers brilliant reflections; I did not see any white reside on the trim. ULW is easy to put on with a DA polisher, and the finish is smooth and slick.
But there are issues. It is very difficult to remove all the polish residue with just a microfiber cloth; I still saw and felt some residue after I had gone over the entire vehicle twice with a microfiber cloth. Then I used a wet microfiber cloth to spit shine the finish (got this idea from Liquid Glass directions). The finish was not ideal, but I thought waxing would remove the final bits of streaking.
Ultimate Liquid Wax leaves streaks on a dark paint, so I had to spit shine the finish, but maybe this tendency to leave streaks is a result of using the polish. The gloss remains brilliant (perhaps not as good as Black Magic Wet Shine Wax, but I can't remove that product from my car). With the Meguiars ULW, there is depth and liveliness to the paint, but the streaks are a distraction. The job simply doesn't look finished. The depth with ULW equals what I get with Autoglym HD paste wax, but it does not seem like a liquid finish, which is what I get from Liquid Glass Polish/Sealant and Mothers Carnauba Wax (Step 3).
So this ULW is not a game changer in car waxes, but it is a good wax that is easy to put on and take off, but it does leave light streaks on a dark paint. Even the spit shine method will not completely remove the streaks. The closest I have come to a perfect finish was when I used Black Magic Wet Shine Liquid Wax (for gloss) and finished with Liquid Glass (for depth and lively reflections). The ULW doesn't come close to that result; I will, however, update this review as I use the ULW on its own and as I improve my technique with the Porter Cable. I will also comment on how long this product lasts.
I had to purchase this product locally because Amazon has not yet had stock, and it was cheaper at both AutoZone and Advance Auto.
